Seawater is used for a wide variety of processes including cooling water, R.O. feed water, fire-mains water, water injection etc. In order to protect pumping, injection and membrane equipment, the seawater has to be treated to remove harmful contaminants such as sand, corrosion products and on a seasonal basis 'bloom'.
